I'd bake the sponge cakes larger than the fruit cake then cut them down to the same size, i think that would work, good luck"

My no fail vanilla cake is so easy, you may have to look up oven temperature though, i'm in England.
recipe is:-
6oz each
self raising flour
caster sugar
margerine
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
1 tablespoon of boiled water…"
