Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Thank you to this site to help me learn the How to do it!
Special Thanks to:
Sherry, MMF video/slideshow tutorial
Theresa (Terri) How to stick fondant together.
Small square 8x8x2
Small round 6x2
(I had enough batter left to make a second round but did not use in this cake, I needed to feed only 10 people)
We had a patriotic event at our home 4/5/10 and I made this small cake.
Cake, very light almost white cake, sliced to layer the square and round and then filled with lemon cream cheese icing, thin layer of butter cream for crumb coat, Marshmallow fondant - 1 recipe that I split and colored, blue and red and of course left the white as white.
There are 13 stripes and yes, 50 stars that I also made sparkle with the shimmering dust!
My fondant on the actual round and square cakes I made very very thin and my stripes and stars were thicker.
Everyone loved it! I LOVED it for my first cake. I know it is very simple but I did it!!! Thanks to everyone on this site who share and help each other. All of you have made it easy for a first-timer.

Denise,
You have to try Sherry Quall's Marshmallow Fondant! That is what I used!!! So easy, no problem and tastes really good! One of people who came over likes to do wedding cakes, which I had no idea that she did, she asked me what kind of fondant it was because she was amazed how beautiful it looked - she didn't taste it yet. I asked her to taste it and then I told her it was Marshmallow! She said that was the first time she ever tasted it but heard of it before. Of course I sent her an email about this place and directed her to Sherry's recipe: http://www.cakeswebake.com/forum/topics/how-to-make-chocolate
Then click onto her link and see how easy it is! I didn't use the chocolate, obviously. That is next!

Thanks to everyone for the thumbs up! I really appreciate your positive encouragement a lot.

Your cake came out great!! I am not a big fan of working with fondant...but I think it might be the recipe I used (Wilton's) - it was VERY hard to work with...even after adding a few drops of liquid to try to soften it! I'm also new at this, but love to do it! How did you like working with fondant? Was it tough to work with, or was it more like soft clay? I guess I need to experiment some more! Maybe it would have come out nice like yours!
