Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

This cake was made for the World Lupus Day Sugar Art Collaboration hosted by Emilia Calvo and Zelda Scafidas to bring awareness to this unseen disease. The color purple and butterflies are symbols for Lupus, as is the wolf. The idea behind my design is that it is not obvious when someone suffers from this chronic disease and are often hurt by thoughtless comments like, "but you don't look sick". I wanted to convey that, while the outside may look sunny and happy, inside lurks pain and suffering.

This is a red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting done in the water color style. The lilacs and leaves are gum paste, the butterflies printed on wafer paper and the wolf is painted on fondant with petal dusts and coco butter. The grass is colored coconut.
