My version of 'Maggie Austin's' fantasy peony. Loved that Craftsy class. This sucker is huge, and heavy!

My neighbor when I was growing up was a teacher.  So of course her 2 girls, and I, just loved using the word 'ain't"! lol  And it was in our dictionary. ha ha ha

Thanks, I really enjoyed doing it, because you don't have to be perfect on any of it!   Maggie Austin does an excellent job on this one, so much easier than any I have done, which ain't many, and it actually looks pretty good.

Sandra, I used some of the peony cutters I had, but when I needed the large petals, I had to use the dress cookie cutter, just reshaped the bodice, and that is why they look squared off & flat! lol  They are the ones with the wires in the pic below on the green mat.  You did encourage me to improvise, soooo... {:o)  This will show you how big this baby is!

Thanks so much you two!!  I got them so thin I could read through them, I used Maggie Austin's gumpaste recipe, and it is terrific.  AND I used her tutorial to do the peony.  The secret is to just start thinning the petals out, using pretty firm pressure, until they just can't stretch any more, and any & all lacerations just add character! lol  She does not use the ball tool, she take the fatter end of the veining tool and uses it, with quite firm pressure, to pull outward to thin & stretch the petals.  I broke that end off of 2 of my veining tools on this flower, then bought the solid/all one piece, black one, hoping it would last longer.  But it is so thin!  I am looking for the White one, it is thicker & can probably handle the abuse better! lol  I had a brainstorm, and made the extra petals just to fill in the spaces I knew were going to show up as I broke them!!!  lol  Did my '4 stages' of the flower make since?

They are oh so very fragile.  Every time I picked it up to work on it, I broke off another piece, or 3!  I was able to put most of them back together with gum glue (gumpaste in water).

Bonnie, this is just gorgeous!  I am in agreement with Goreti...you've come a long way, Baby!  This looks like a real flower or rice paper, certainly not gum paste!  You must have been able to get your petals really thin!  Do you have a special cutter and veiner for the peonie?  BTW, this is too realistic to be a "fantasy" peony!

Besides, I was told that if you stick the word 'fantasy' in front of it, that you could get away with just about anything... lol
