My First CB Cakes! As you can see, I did not use the pans made for this purpose, but followed a tutorial, which worked out perfectly, or good enough for me! I torted each of the 3 chocolate cakes, and each of the 3 pineapple coconut orange flavored cakes. I measured to evenly divide each layer, then hunted around until I found something the right size to cut them out, easier than using a knife, more compact. The top left picture shows the pattern used, each piece held in place with frosting, and the middle left picture shows each alternating layer held together with frosting. The bottom left shows the 3 completed cakes in the fridge. I used chocolate frosting to build the cake, and used vanilla flavored marshmallow buttercream to finish off the outside. Two of the cakes were finished off with colored sprinkle candies, and the 3rd with small pearl dragees. I like making 6" cakes, easier to put together, and to give away! lol Each batch makes three 6" cakes, so I ended up with 3 CB cakes.

Sandra, as for the cakepops, I start with the shortest of my 3 cakes, each recipe makes 3  6" cakes, and top them all out to that level, so I usually have quite a bit of cake left.  And when I have 2, or 3, cake flavors involved, I get double, or triple, the left over cake to do the pops!

I do have problems getting the chocolate soft/thin enough to dip them properly.  Don't know what I am doing wrong, but I often have to spoon the chocolate over the pops, because the chocolate is too thick for dipping.  I have added the shortening, and it really doesn't seem to help all that much.  I use the Wilton wafers.  I melt them in 20 second intervals @ 50-60 % power.  Any suggestions anyone??  I need help!   EXCEPT, I don't have this problem when I am melting regular chocolate chips, they come out just fine?!  Go figure.

Coming from you Goreti, that is quite a compliment!  And I thank you for it!!  I get my inspirations to do them all a little different from Betty.  It always amazes me that she can come up with sooo many different ways to do 'CAKE'!!  I just have to sit on my hands to keep from over doing everything!  And on cake # 2, that was my first attempt at using the serrated scrapper!  Or any of the other design scrapers for that matter!   I know I have them here somewhere, but this was the only one that I was able to locate! lol  The cake is half gone already, so I will not be getting on the scales this week.  Sigh...

Thanks a lot June!  I really like to work with 6" cakes, so very glad I learned about them! lol  As for the CB effect, I saw a tutorial on it that morning, and decided it was worth a trial run.  It is not perfect, I applied the chocolate icing that held them all together a mite too thick, and so the lighter cake sections look a little smaller than the brown ones, but the overall effect was OK!  And thanks again! {;o))

Thanks Sandra!   The top one, if that is the cake you are referring to, was probably the easiest to do of the 3.  I just laid the spatula against the bottom, and started spinning the turntable, raising the spatula up the side as I went.  Same for the top, started on the outside, and moved to the center as I was spinning the turntable.  Dropped on a few pearls, & voila!  It's 'cake'!  I really like this effect!  And I often eat a whole one by myself! lol

They are all so clean and pretty.  I love the different patterns you've used to finish the frosting.  My favorite is the swirls :o)  I could eat a whole one by myself!

Here are the 3 cakes.  The top one went to the girls in the office.  The second one went home with the kids today, and the bottom one is the one I am munching my way through... {:o)

I have never made cake pops, Bonnie.  I always have the trimmings eaten before I can get around to it - lol!

Thanks so much you two!!  It really was fun.  And no cutting was necessary, because I found a plastic bowl for the bigger, outer, ring, and the lid from the pearl dragees for the small center circle, just used them like you would a cookie cutter, and they worked perfectly too!  I used a toothpick to ease the cake from the lid.  Mike & Gwen dropped the kids off here just before lunch, and we made cakepops with the left over cut off tops, and dipped them in blue, yellow, and brown melted chocolate.  The kids loved them.  And they took their cake home with them when they went.  Hope mom & dad get a kick out of the CB insides, a first from me! lol
