Next week is going to be my grandson Michael’s 1st year birthday. My daughter has been making all the preparation for Michael’s birthday party. I am making cookie-pops with the face of our favorite mouse, Mickey Mouse. I am making them in the colors of the party.
Since I love
this sugar cookies recipe so much, I am making it for these cookies as well. This is the same sugar cookies recipe that I used for the wedding dress cookies. Since I don’t have a Mickey Mouse cookie cutter, I decided to make round cookies and outline a picture of Mickey Mouse with Royal icing using my
Kopykake, and then flood them.
When flooding figures, you need to work your way into the figure by flooding one section at the time, let it dry, and then continue with another section. If you try to flood all the different sections of the cookies with different colors all at once, you will end up with a huge mess.
This was my first time doing Mickey Mouse cookies, and I think I did okay flooding these cookies. Since I have to ship them to El Paso, TX., I want them to dry for at least three days before shipping them.
To outline the face and flood I used tip #1. To flood the color outside the cookies I used tip #2 (Wilton).
Next time I think I’ll get a Mickey Mouse cookie cutter to give it a better outline, but I think they came out pretty cool this way.
This red one needs the nose to be finished. I'll do it later.
Happy Birthday, Michael! Grandma loves you!
