I think most of us agree Fondant is better to work with and gives a much more attractive looking cake, but Buttercream has won in taste...I have learned to remember to flavor my fondant and everyone loves it!!!!

I love the look of fondant and since I have been using fondarific, my clients really like this brand taste also. I don't think there is a more beautiful finish or cleaner look to make your work look more beautiful. Of course it will show every flaw if you haven't worked with it alot. I don't get to do alot of them in fondant, because in my area. People love my buttercream cakes, but I can get those to look pretty flawless. In fact most people think my cakes are fondant, but they are buttercream finished. Bottom line it comes down to money and the taste of the client. I really like them both ;0)

I too like to do fondant cakes, neater finish, less messy than butter cream. Also cant get a smooth finish with butter cream.

I'm still learning to work with each. And I enjoy eating each (too much sometimes, LOL). I don't mind the taste of fondant - if it's too thick I just remove the excess.

I've been more able to work with buttercream and royal since they're cheaper to practice with. I tried making fondant once but it came out bad, not enough elasticity. I'm going to try some different recipes and things I've learned on here and try it again.

I like the traditional look of buttercream piping. I have some Wilton magazines back to 1970 - wow, they used a lot of buttercream on some of those wedding cakes. When I first saw fondant cakes they looked too plain but now I've seen many more examples and how they can be all kinds of styles - elegant, funky, romantic, you name it.

So now I like both and want to learn to do both equally. I would hate to see buttercream wedding cakes go by the wayside entirely. Some of the cakes in those old books are a strange sight to our 21st-century eyes, but some were quite pretty.

I like the eating part of the buttercream but fondant cakes are prettier in my opinion.
