Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Well at last hubby went out for a few hours on Saturday and I have managed to get the wine bottle for his birthday cake started. A bit stressful, as I didn't know how long he was going to be and felt rushed throughout the whole process! So maybe not as good as it could have been with more time, but it will have to do. Shaped it over a wine bottle on Saturday with green coloured gumpaste, then left it to dry till last night. After he had gone to bed last night, I dusted it over with Forest Green dust mixed with a little rainbow lustre. Painted gold ring and red for foil at the top. Cork is gumpaste painted chestnut brown gel. All I've got to do now is - make the cake, cover that, paint the label, spray bottle with edible lacquer etc etc - no pressure.

Ah Berlynda - you are so welcome.  I can't take credit for the idea as I nicked it from someone else!  Just a tip - leave the bottle to dry for as long as you possibly can, make sure you give the real bottle underneath a good coating of crisco or cornstarch to make it easier to get off (had a few dramas with that, I must say).  Isomalt is something that looks so great for those that have got the knack of it, but I guarantee I would get into the most dreadful mess too.  I am so hamfisted lol!

Well folks, it's done and pics posted.  I am completely shattered.  It's now 11.00pm, he will be home in the morning and I have just finished cleaning up the Armageddon that was my kitchen.  Quick shower and beddy byes.
