This was a quick cake I started this past Monday, and is being picked up today Saturday 25th July by my son and fiancé as there attending the wedding. Here's the lowdown: Kaylan is a lovely girl and good friends with my future daughter-in-law, Megan. I was asked by Kaylan to make approx 120 cupcakes for the wedding. This was a very hard call for me. I wasn't prepared to make that many cupcakes, I'm not crazy about making large orders of cupcakes, just not my thing. I don't mind making a few, but over a 100 plus...NO. Then there's the nightmare of delivery and set up.
I find out from Megan last week, Kaylan really wanted a very small wedding cake to cut, but couldn't afford to pay me to make one. I couldn't see her/them go without. This couple helped out so much at my son's and fiancé's Stag & Doe. So as a thank you, and as my gift to them, I decided to surprise them with a small 6" wedding cake. Just small enough to cut for two lovebirds.
Had some big issues with weather, but I overcame. Had to change a few things, like adding piping around the cake. But happy with the overall outcome. Cake is banana/lemon torted with lemon bc/RI icing. Decorated in purple and black, the wedding colours. In keeping with their wedding rustic theme added black fondant chalkboard hearts with couples initials, gumpaste moss, and coffee filter paper pansies on a cake board resembling wood. I made a purple clay craft rose on the top that they can have as keepsake. I hope this brings a smile to their faces, and they have a wonderful wedding day...

Like Sandra, I thought the pansies were gumpaste.  You really have mastered the coffee filters flowers.  The rose looks great and I like the idea.  I'm sure they loved it.

You sure can't tell by looking that you had issues, June.  This is a beautiful cake.  I got some surprises when I read your description....didn't realize the roses were clay (beautiful!) or that the pansies were coffee filters.  Thought they were both gum paste.  I also LOVE your chalkboard hearts with their initials.  You did a wonderful job with the effect.
