I just cut strips of fondant with the top edge wavy, and wrapped each strip around the cake starting at the top and worked my way down. Yes it is just a wrapped rose at the top.

Lovely!  Could you tell us how you did the ripples/waves?  It looks like a rose at the top!

i thought it was a stack of pancakes at first.. that would have been an awesome cake
