Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

White sheet cake to feed about 45-48 people. I placed swags in a division on all sides so that cake cutter would have a visual to go by as cutting points to insure there were enough pieces. All animals are made from fondant and jointed together with spaghetti for added strength. Trees are dowels covered in fondant. Client wanted toys added to give more of a baby theme to the cake. Thanks for looking!

Thank you Karen. I still use a toothpick or dowel for the center, though, so that the necks don't fall down. We should think of some other food item that would do the same thing. I've worried too that some unsuspecting person would take a bite and be skewered!

I love your animals. They've got so much personality. I also love the idea of using spaghetti for added strength. I've used toothpicks before but it always makes me nervous to make sure I've told people. Spaghetti totally solves that problem. I'm filing that idea away for future reference.

Thank you to both of you. You know, I think everyone has their own area where they excel in and not so good in other areas. One of my friends on here named Susan can do the most beautiful string work ever, but I absolutely stink at it, just Like I stink at making gum paste flowers. Like you Antoinette, you do big, and I can't do that. Mine have to be small! lol And Goreti, I have seen your flowers, they are awesome!!

Linda, whenever I see you name I just have to take a look at your cake.  I am never disappointed.  It is always a pleasure to see all your cakes but I have to admit that I am a little envious of your talent.  lol

Very nice Linda.  Your characters are just adorable.  I work very large (eg. my giraffe, mermaid etc), but have yet to come anywhere near mastering the small figures.  I am an artist who, two years ago, decided to give back to the community by creating cakes for fundraisers/charity auctions.  I can transcend my sculpture to cakes on a large scale, but my big old working hands have problems with the smaller creatures.  This safari is just delightful.
