Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Just another Wilton cake that I found lying around, hidden in some off the wall folder, along with the prior 4 cakes listed tonight. lol And we are not done yet! There are more to come! This was a practice in roses again. With a message of course! I really should have 'printed' this one!!

Oh this class wasn't fun Sandra....she was a task master. Two women quit the first night. But I wanted to learn....Michael's didn't exist, she was it!!! She said she never wanted to see any of us lick our fingers....every time she turned her back you can guess what we did....ha...ha!!

I don't understand why anyone would be that hard headed.  I think it is ALL fun and I want to learn to do it ALL of it!

Now this looks familiar. I made a similar cake in my bc class. But mine was from a local cake shop owner. There weren't that many cake decorating shops around then. I don't think I have one photo from that course. Took it when my son was probably 3? and now he's 30. I remember doing tons and tons of bc roses every week, till they were coming out my ears!! This teacher was a real battle axe. She taught a combo of Wilton way and HER way. Refused to teach us how to pipe a rose, and place freshly made right onto a cake, that was a no no...said it was "cheating". We HAD to make our roses in stages, and let them air dry. I know now, she was sooo old school, so many techniques she just wouldn't teach us because they were "new fangled"...wouldn't last. But there were new young decorators I found out later using the new medium of rolled buttercream and yikes...fondant, that eventually put her out of business. Funny twist...this decorator sold her shop cause..she was getting old..was 70ish when I took my lessons, and for the other reasons I stated. My now current cake leader of our CCDG chapter, bought all this teachers clients. Our leader, June, yes, same as me, told me that she just refused to keep up to the latest cake trends at the time.

Bonnie, my roses are gum paste!  I make really sad, droopy bc roses!

Thanks Goreti.  That is almost the first thing you learn from Wilton, but I had already learned it from youtube, and love doing it!  I can do BC roses all day, but have a heck of a time with the gumpaste ones!  Go figure...

I like the pop of color on edge of the roses.  Love the effect.

And a great big thank you for that one.  You are so kind Sandra! You make me smile.  Remember, I have seen your roses..., and they are like Goreti's, perfection incarnate! lol
