  • Cooking Time: 12 - 15
  • 3/4 cup butter, margarine, or Crisco
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 cups old fashioned Quaker Oats
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Beat together all liquid ingredients, butter and sugar (the longer the better)

Stir in all other ingredients (don't beat!)

Drop cookies by teaspoonful onto cookie sheet or baking stone.

Bake at 350 for 12-15 minutes until light golden brown.

Store in a tightly sealed container to keep soft.

I would use the crisco to keep them from spreading like with butter (but will taste better with butter of course!) I sometimes use a combination of butter/crisco.  Margarine is gross so I would not use at all.. but this is the original recipe I have from way back..
