Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi everyone!!! Does anyone use Silpat Mat to help roll and cover the fondant cakes? This is the only one available in the Philippines because the Pro Mat is only available in the US. I am thinking of using it to cover the cake with fondant. I am just worried because I saw in the picture that it has some grid lines, so the fondant will not be smooth. I've read that some people use it. I just don't know how smooth the fondant is.

Hi Maria - I don't know this product, but I watched a video on it.  They don't show it being used as a rolling mat, only a baking sheet, so things don't stick to it.  But it also looks to me as if the gridlines are embedded into it with a smooth surface, so I don't think it would leave marks on your fondant.  Whether it would work for you or not, remains to be seen.

I have this mat Maria. Use for baking. You can't use for rolling fondant. It will leave little bumps/ridges as it is NOT smooth.

Thanks June!!! Good that you replied so I didn't order it.

I saw the video. it's very useful in baking as it doesn't stick. So, instead of using disposable baking paper better to use Silpat. I ordered a silicone mat for rolling fondant but it is small. There is no big size available. Thanks for the info Katy!!!
