I have made some beautiful fondant decoration for a friends wedding cake. These decorations are very delicate. Since this friend lives in another state, I have to ship these to her. I have no idea how to pack these flowers so that they reach her safely without any damage. Any advice or suggestions will be very helpful. Thanks in advance.

I have transported gumpaste flowers/decorations in my car, but never shipped any. The first thing I know I would suggest is that you make duplicates in case of breakage. I do that most of the time, except for a large project, like a fondant figure or such. I also would go to UPS or the like and see what packing material they have. I am sure they have shipped delicate things and could suggest some ideas. The problem is of course, being bumped. I have used paper towels and styrofoam peanuts to nestle my decorations.
Hopefully someone who has shipped before will see this post and advise you.
Good luck

Permalink Reply by Louise Fisher on October 15, 2012 at 5:57pm I have tried to ship icing decorations..some made from fondant, royal icing, mexican modelling paste & flower gumpaste. I wrapped them in bubble wrap, placed in a box so it fit flush so no movement & then put into another padded box surrounded by bubble wrap.
I have sent basic 1st class mail, signed delivery, fragile goods & courier. Honestly, they cost more to post & pack than to make & most of them arrived smashed or damaged.
I have swore NEVER to post out anythig again but I guess you could go and have a look in your local baking store (we have "Hobbycraft" in the UK, not sure about the states) to see how they package their ready made cake toppers for sale in store. I think they are encased in polystyrene and then cling wrapped somehow.
There should be an international cake courier, they would make a killing.
Sorry I can't help you more

Permalink Reply by Goreti on October 16, 2012 at 9:04am I wish I could help you but I too transported the decorations. I did exactly what Louise did and brought it in my carry-on bag. I would definitely go a UPS store explain the situation and I'm sure they have something that would do the trick.
