How far in advance can you decorate cake dummies with fondant?

Carol, I've decorated cake dummies a month in advance with no change other than drying out, which just makes it stronger and less prone to damage.  But it seems to last indefinitely if kept in the appropriate environment - i.e. - cool and dry.

I've covered a dummy as far as 3 mnths in advance. Stored in a cool place away from light, it's fine. I covered and decorated a dummy with gumpaste in March and added flower embellishments in early April. Just used it last wknd for a wedding shower....it was perfectly fine.

Demonstrators use dummies for ages for show purposes.  As long as your fondant isn't the colour that will discolour or fade, then do it whenever you like
