Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Can any one help me on this matter. Again today my fondant has cracked in the places where I have sugar glued accent pieces on the side of my cake. I mean within 2 hours small hairline cracks are forming from the letters that I put on my newest cake. This is not the first time this has happened but I have always managed to disguise them but on this one I cannot. All input would be helpful at this stage. So aggrivated that I put in all this hard work then this happens.

Firstly Sharon I removed your last 3 *******   "words".  No types of those words allowed here.

If you rub some shortening into the letters, the cracks might disappear??  Not sure, cause once it is dry, not sure it will absorb the shortening.  I am a little perplexed with your problem tho as I have used just plain fondant to cut out letters, and I don't ever remember having any cracking. I can feel your frustration. What "glue" are you using?? Maybe that is the culprit??

Thanks June for your input but I guess I did not explain it correctly. The cracking is not on the additional lettering, it is  on the base fondant where the new lettering was placed on top. Sugar glue is just tylose and water. I guess as an Aussie and Christian  I do not see my last 3 words as offensive and nor do I know anyone else who would but ok if you need to take them off.

As far as the "words" Sharon, as one who had a Scottish Mom, I use them to. But as a moderator here, I have rules to follow.  Wasn't sure who it might offend, but better to be safe than sorry, so I removed them. Hope no offense is taken.

Now you have me stumped????  Cracking at the base of where the lettering was placed?...... curious. My glue is just a few pieces of gumpaste dissolved in some alcohol in a small bottle. Basically what you are using. I confess, this has never happened to me. You could try corn syrup which I use sometimes. Other than that suggestion, can't think of anything else.

Sharon, I'm a little perplexed by this as well.  So I'm going to suggest some things that might seem obvious, but here goes nothing.

1.  Are you pressing the accents on too firmly, causing the fondant to crack underneath and then it is slowly spreading.

2. Have you tried just using plain boiled water (not much, just enough to make the accent pieces or the fondant a little sticky?

3. Could you be using too much sugar glue?  I use shop bought edible glue sometimes and often have problems with it making things too soft and I'm sure that's because I have used too much.

4. Are you able to post a picture of your problem so we can try and see exactly what's happening?
