Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have a bridal shower coming up and the shower is at a vineyard with wine tasting. The wedding will be at the beach in October. I was thinking of doing a cake with fondant grape clusters and criss-crossed wine glasses with their names on it, (probably just draw the glasses). Just found out they are doing the beach theme for décor so she said maybe I could incorporate the beach/wine. Any ideas? A while back I did make a small beachy cake with choc candy molded seashells so I have the mold and could do something with that too. Looking for ideas that aren't too terribly involved.

I was first thinking about something on these lines for the wine glass look in the first picture and the grape clusters in the 2nd picture. But now I'm thinking more beach theme and maybe 2-tier with wine glasses as separator?? Any suggestions/ideas?

That's quite tricky to combine isn't it, without it looking over fussy?  I like the idea of somehow getting wine glasses laying in sand, but not sure how you could do that........

I also like your idea of wine glass separators.  So maybe beach theme bottom tier in a sandy coloured fondant with your shells adorning the sides and bottom.  Then biscuit crumbs on the top of it, with your wine glasses standing in it as separators.  Your top tier could then be in a light creamy colour (as close to white wine as you can get), with white and red grapes adorning.......

Also just thought, if you use your wine glasses as separators, you could maybe half fill them with a dark red jelly to look like they have red wine in them?

some good ideas Katy, and I was also thinking of actually putting some real wine into the wine glass separators but maybe that could end in disaster lol. What do you think if I did something cake in firt pic but like where the fences are, replace with a small cluster of grapes and in place of chairs on top replace with small cluster of grapes and fondant or fake wine glasses like 2nd pic or  make the wine glasses appear to be toasting or criss-crossed as in the 3rd pic.?

It may be a bit too complicated, but I used to love sitting on the beach with my sweetie, drinking wine and watching the sun set.  How about the top of the cake covered with brown sugar or cookie crumbs to look like sand, a couple of beach chairs and a couple of glasses of wine?  Maybe a few grapes and shells thrown in for good measure.

Oh heck Wendy - so many ideas!  Firstly DO NOT put real wine in the glasses lol!  I shudder to think what could happen....... Make a wine jelly, by all means, but liquid is just asking for trouble.

All those 3 cakes are lovely btw, but I would take care not to overcomplicate things.  So of your ideas, I think the best combination would be

Pic1 - yes replace fences with small grapes.

I wouldn't put wine glasses and grapes on the top - too much.  Just the wine glasses I think will do.  I quite like the idea of gumpaste glasses criss crossed.

I also like Sandra's idea..........

Have you tried sketching out a few ideas and combinations?  That's what I usually do when I can't decide how much and what to put where.

I think those cookies with icing would even be nice in top except I've never made them and don't know how but yes I like something a little on the simplistic side. As far as sketching...I can't even draw a circle lol. I even tried drawing cakes out in my computer paint program but it was too much time.

lol OK then, drawing's out!

just to follow up, if you haven't already seen it, here is what I came up with, it was a bigger hit than I expected, in fact, the bride said I could do the same thing for the wedding but (also attached) I had to do something different of course. And they esp. loved the choc. with pb icing.
